THREE CUPS OF TEA: A Letter from the Library Director

One Book, One Community

The response to the announcement of THREE CUPS OF TEA as the 2008 One Book, One Community reading project selection has been overwhelming. So many people have told library staff and project committee members about how this story has touched their lives. You will have the unique opportunity to hear Greg Mortenson tell his own story on Wednesday, March 19 at the DECC Auditorium.

2008 is the seventh year of the One Book, One Community project, in effect an area-wide book club. If you have not participated before, we encourage you to join other Northlanders in our tradition of reading and discussing the same book and participating in the scheduled events through the end of April.

Please check the Duluth Public Library or your local bookstores for copies of THREE CUPS OF TEA. If you participate in one of the community events listed as part of this guide, we encourage you to share your thoughts with family, friends and neighbors.

The Duluth Library Foundation is the proud sponsor of this event. Thanks to the generous contributions of Foundation donors, you have the opportunity to meet Greg Mortenson and join in an inspiring community discussion. In a letter to the editor of the Duluth News-Tribune (published January 12, 2008), one reader said, "This book is...about what can be accomplished when we're passionate about our work, keep our promises, involve the community and treat people with respect...I would encourage everyone to read this book. It could change lives."

David J. Ouse
Duluth Public Library Director
