Tax Help at the Library

Tax Form Update:

The library has received forms and instruction booklets for:

Tax Preparation Help
Volunteers from UMD will be at the Main Library in the Gold Room (Michigan Street level) beginning Saturday, February 9, 2013. Their schedule will be:

Mondays:   2 - 7 p.m.
Saturdays:   10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Volunteers will not be here on these dates:
Monday, February 18 - Library Closed
Saturday, March 16
Monday, March 18
Saturday, March 23

The last day the volunteers will be here is Saturday, April 13.

 

Bring the following materials to your tax help session:

  • Social Security numbers for everyone listed on the tax return (including children)
  • Birth dates of everyone listed on the tax return
  • Photo I.D.
  • Last year's tax return
  • W-2 forms, 1099 forms and any other taxable and nontaxable income statements or forms
  • Receipts for charitable donations
  • Property taxes paid in 2012 on your home
  • Daycare expenses (include provider's name, address and tax ID or Social Security number)
  • Receipts for purchase of school-related material for K-12 students
  • Form 1098-T for college, technical college or other post-secondary schools
  • Form 1098-E if interest was paid on a student loan
  • RENTERS: Form CRP from your landlord
  • HOMEOWNERS: 2013 property tax bill

Tax Forms
The Main Library has most (but not all) Federal tax forms, instructions and publications, as well as some basic Wisconsin forms. The state of Minnesota is providing the Library with the 12 most-commonly-needed forms; other forms may be printed for $.15 per page or received by calling 651-296-4444. Tax forms may be found in the Michigan Street lobby and on the Tax Shelf on the second floor near the copy machines.
