Tips to Help Parents & Kids Enjoy Storytime

  • Participate with your child and have fun! Parents who are listening to the story and showing interest in books are wonderful role models for their children. Please plan to visit with other parents either before or after Storytime.
  • Save snacks for another time. Children are better able to participate in Storytime activities if their hands are free and they are not distracted by others eating around them. Do, however, feel free to nurse or bottle-feed small babies.
  • Relax! It is not expected that your child will sit still and participate in every activity. If your child becomes too restless or unhappy, step outside for a moment. Come back in when your child is ready to return to the Storytime or try again another day.
  • Parents are welcome to attend Storytime for 3-5 year olds, but may also treat it as a first independent activity for their children. You may spend this time in the Library with your other children or pick out some materials for yourself. Ask your child to tell you about what happened at Storytime.
  • Youth Services staff can help you decide which is best for your children: Baby & Toddler Time or Storytime

Keeping up to date with Storytime:
