Two brochures, posters and a bookmark were designed at the beginning of the Book Time project.
The "Presenting Book Time
With Your Baby" brochure is used in presentations to groups
that might be interested in participating either through volunteering
or through fundraising. The brochure expands on the project's
goals of city-wide awareness, educational programming and fundraising.
Quotes about the importance of reading in brain development and
additional resources (books, pamphlets
and web sites) are included. There is also a section on how
individuals can help with the project. A fundraising insert
is often included when this brochure is distributed at presentations.
The other brochure is intended for parents and caregivers. It includes tips on how and why to read to babies and a short booklist. Much of that information is available on the Book Time pages here on the web site.
Posters and brochures were placed in doctors' waiting rooms and with other agencies serving families.
Book Time posters were placed in all Duluth city buses.
A public service announcement was developed with the assistance of KDLH-TV, the local CBS affiliate, and was distributed to all local television stations. The PSA showed a local pediatrician talking about the importance of reading to infants while showing pictures of babies and parents at the Library.
All 33,000 bills sent out by the City's Water & Gas Department during April, 2000 contained an informational and fundraising flyer for Book Time.
Billboards

A local billboard company agreed to put up one billboard per month over the course of a year advertising the Book Time project. The billboard locations, with a variety of short messages, were rotated throughout the city, providing maximum public exposure.
