Reports
A. Friends of the Duluth Public Library
- Markert
The Barnes & Noble Book Fair will take place this Saturday, December 1. The annual holiday book sale at Main is scheduled for December 5 and 6. The Friends' next author event, which will feature Brian Freeman, will take place in September of 2013. It had been tentatively scheduled for May; however, the publication for Freeman's latest book has been delayed.

B. Duluth Library Foundation - Katz/D'Allaird
The Foundation's "Libations in the Library" event is scheduled for this evening. A fundraising mailing went out last week.

C. Stability in Funding Committee - D'Allaird
No update at this time.

D. One Book, One Community - Brissett
After originally choosing three books for young people, the committee decided to scale back and continue the tradition of highlighting just one youth title. It will be "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Balliett. Brissett approached Balliett about making a visit to Duluth, but the author declined. Susan Vreeland, the author of the adult selection, will be making an appearance in the region April 16 through 18, 2013. Renee Zurn is working on securing funding for a Minnesota Book Award author to come to Duluth and speak in conjunction with One Book. Several other programs already have been set up.

Old Business:
Talking points. No update at this time.

Update on potential building project. Powers showed board members a draft of a survey designed to gather information about what areas of the city library visitors are coming from, how they get to the library, and what else they do in conjunction with their library visit. The survey will be conducted by an AmeriCorps worker at Main and the branches during specified hours the week of December 3. In January Powers will schedule another meeting with Dave Montgomery, Roshanda Smiley and Tari Rayala.

New Business:
Appearance at city council meeting. Bogue described plans to thank the city council in January, one year after the expansion of branch hours. D'Allaird said that the Vote Yes committee has some money left and is planning to donate it to the Duluth Legacy Endowment Fund. He offered to coordinate a joint appearance with Vote Yes members, perhaps for the January 28 city council meeting. Powers will compile year-end library usage statistics that can be shared at this meeting.

New library board member. There was further discussion about the process of getting a new member appointed once Johnson's term expires in March. Powers will contact the city clerk's office to find out whether anyone is on a waiting list.
