Reports
A. Friends of the Duluth Public Library
- Powers for Markert
The Friends received a thank-you note from Margaret Berg for the party last month. Help is needed on Saturday, December 4 for the Barnes & Noble Book Fair. The Friends will hold their annual Holiday Book Sale in the Superior Street lobby December 7 and 8.

B. Arrowhead Library System - Powers for Brissett
Powers reported on an upcoming meeting concerning a new automation system for libraries in the ALS consortium. Several staff members from Duluth will be in attendance, as Duluth is considering whether or not to join. Becoming part of the consortium could result in significant cost savings for the library as well as improved access to library materials for residents throughout the area.

Old Business
Values statements for strategic plan - The values statements drafted by Watson were reviewed, and board members agreed on some minor wording changes. The statements were reviewed as amended. Powers will forward the changes to the consultant for inclusion in the final plan.

Update on planning process - Powers reported that the planning team has finished its work, and now the library's management team is going through a process to identify which current and potential new activities are effective and which are not. Once this process is complete, a series of meetings with the consultant will take place to develop the first year's action plans. The plan remains on track to be completed by the end of the year.

New Business
Rescheduling January meeting - In order to approve the strategic plan in advance of presenting it to the city council, Powers recommended meeting earlier in the month if possible. Thursday, January 13 was chosen as the date. There will be no meeting in December or on January 25 as originally scheduled.

The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
The next meeting will take place Thursday, January 13 at 4:30 p.m. in the library's conference room.
