Call to Order: President Dan D'Allaird called the meeting of the Duluth Public Library Board to order at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, and reviewed the agenda. The agenda was approved as drafted.

Approval of Minutes
The Library Board minutes of the special meeting of June 8, 2010 meeting were approved.

Reports
A. Friends of the Duluth Public Library - Markert
The Friends are providing refreshments for the community focus group meetings. The group will be selling used books during the Sidewalk Sale event downtown from July 7 through 9. A joint meeting with the Friends of the Superior Public Library will be held on July 20. Some Friends members are planning to decorate a float for the Spirit Valley Days Parade in August. A "Laps Around the Library" fundraiser walk is being planned for September 25.

B. Arrowhead Library System - Brissett
Beth Kelly was elected president of the ALS board.

C. Duluth Library Foundation - Katz
New officers were elected. Dean Casperson is now president, Janet Davis is vice president, Mark Melhus is treasurer, and Wendy Wennberg continues as secretary. Earnings on the endowment were down 5.3% so far this year.

Old Business
Branch hours - The first two weeks of additional branch hours have gone well. Patrons are appreciative. There was a suggestion to send a letter to the council and city administration with usage statistics at the branches and expressing thanks for their support of the added hours.

Strategic planning - Powers reported that the response to community focus group invitations has been slow in coming. Board members agreed to make follow-up phone calls to the people they suggested for the focus groups. Powers will email a copy of the invitation to board members to provide some background and context for the phone calls.

New Business
Set meeting dates for 2010/2011 - There was consensus that meetings should continue to take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. Meetings will not be scheduled in December and July.

The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
The next meeting will take place Tuesday, August 24 at 4:30 p.m. in the library's conference room.
