- Color Landform Atlas of the United States - Each state link brings up a menu of
links to maps and other online information about the state. Includes
satellite images showing landform and vegetation patterns and
1895 state maps.

- A searchable gazetteer covering almost two million physical
and cultural features in the United States and Antarctica. Search
by feature name or type, country, or state. Information includes
elevation, population, description, history notes, variant names,
and USGS 7.5' map names.

Maps - Drag-and-drop
online mapping from Google. Includes business locations, contact
information, and driving directions for results in the United
States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
- HomeTownLocator Gazeteer - This gazetteer provides "location information
for 1.8 million physical and cultural features with links to
maps and aerials photos" and "Census information for
local areas with links to maps and aerial photos." Gazetteer
tools include aerial photos of streets around the country, local
weather, zip code information and Post Office locator.
- How far is it? - find out how far it is between two places (as
the crow flies).
- Mapathon.com - A huge collection of state and city
maps, plus a wide variety of thematic maps.
- Mapquest - an online interactive world atlas along
with trip planning and routing information between U.S. cities.

Maps & Directions
- Detailed maps and driving directions for the U.S., Canada,
and Europe. There is also a World Atlas for finding maps of any
place in the world.
- Nationalatlas.gov - Easy-to-use maps designed to help
"visualize and understand complex relationships between
environments, places, and people."
- National Geographic - Includes current feature stories, a
mini-encyclopedia, maps, a geography education section, and an
index to all National Geographic publications.
- Perry Castaneda Library Map Collection - A general collection of more than
250,000 maps covering all areas of the world, with over 5,000
map images from the collection available online.
- Toporama - Topographic maps for Canada.
- TopoZone - this site provides access to topographic
maps of the United States "for professional and recreational
map users." Maps are searchable by place name, type of location
(such as airports, beaches, parks) or latitude and longitude.
The use of additional features on the site requires a fee.
- U.S. Gazetteer - a searchable database, by name or state abbreviation,
or zip code. Contains geographic information, maps and census
data.

- Wisconsin Public Land Survey Records:
Original Field Notes and Plat Maps - provides access to scanned images of the original
General Land Office notes and maps, conducted between 1832 and
1866.
- Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations - e-book. Easy-to-understand information on 200
countries and dependencies from around the world. Entries discuss
a variety of topics in detail, from banking and securities to
climate, from government data to demographic statistics. Also
includes biographical essays on national leaders. Available to
Duluth Public Library cardholders. Subscription
provided by the Duluth Library Foundation.
