This database contains information on some of the military personnel from the Duluth area who were killed or captured during World War II and the Korean War. Click to begin searching the database.
The database was maintained by reference librarians at the Duluth Public Library during World War II and after. It is incomplete and is a work in progress. Lists of casualties from St. Louis County may also be found at the St. Louis County/USGen site or at the Veterans' Memorial Hall site.
Each entry may include name, address, rank, service branch, date of incident (killed, captured, etc.), and a brief description of what happened. All entries have at least one citation to an article about the person that appeared in the Duluth newspapers: the Duluth News Tribune (DNT) or the Duluth Herald (DH).
There are several ways to search the database: name, rank, service branch, date, etc. Any words included in the entry are searchable. For example, entering "German prisoner" in the keyword search box will result in a list of all entries including information about the person being captured by the Germans.

To request a copy of an article to be mailed to you, click here. There will be a charge of $1.00 for the first page, and 25 cents for each additional page. The Library will send you a bill and instructions for payment along with the copy.
